Who Said Colombia was Scary?!?!?

I will admit that  I didnt know much about Colombia besides all the bad things they show on the news or teach you in schools, but when I saw a  post from one of my favorite travel bloggers....Hi Rachel Travels!...about her trip to Bogota, Colombia, I had to add Colombia to my bucketlist. Rachel talked about all the cool things Bogota had to offer that didnt break the bank. I'm always down for "cheap travel" so I got to planning :)

When I mentioned to my friends that I booked a trip to Colombia, of course everyone feared the worse and thought I was crazy, but what else is new...HA!

So my flight was booked, now its time to find a place to stay. I've already had my first AirBnB experience, I was now ready to experience my first Hostel. This actually took a lot of research. I'm over 30 .... whoa wait ... push pause ... did I really just say that .... oh well, YES I'm over 30 and I needed to make sure that I was staying somewhere clean, that offered single room options and wasnt a party joint. I found just that at Masaya Hostels. After reading the reviews from travelers that were older than me, I felt good about my decision.
Randomness:
  • I spent less than $300 total including accomodations (excluding airfare)
  • Bogota has some DOPE street art and they offer a FREE walking tour (Please TIP)
  • The Monserrate is beautiful, but that altitude change will have you feeling like an elephant is sitting on your chest.....or maybe it was just me.
  • As a single female traveler, I actually felt quite safe walking around
  • Bogota has UBER
  • The museum is free and very interesting
  • Take a trip outside of Bogota to visit the Salt Cathedral
  • The Masaya Hostel was Great and they offer activities each night (salsa lessons, cooking classes, live music, etc)
  • I stayed in the La Candelaria area (great location)

Bogota has been one of the coolest most inexpensive trips I've been on thus far.  Not only did I get to experience an amazing city but because of Rachel's Blog, I was able to meet & hang with a  fellow traveler/blogger as well...hey Poi :)

xoxo Melanie
