10/24/2015 1 Comment What's in your area?If you’ve read my random facts post, you understand that travelling far away is not always an option for me. This doesn’t stop my ExploRebel soul from seeking out new adventures. I try to utilize my off days as much as possible to explore locally. If its within a four hour drive, I consider it to be local……call me crazy - I know! Below I will share a few tips and resources I use for exploring at “home”. Ear Hustling: Some may call it eavesdropping or just plain nosy, but believe me it works. Have you ever overheard someone’s conversation regarding his or her weekend plans or some new establishment that just opened in the area? I’m sure we all have. Put those listening skills to use and make their plans your plans – just not on the same weekend. We don’t want you looking like a stalker … lol. Get Lost: Look up different locations for some of your favorite stores. When you’re done shopping, check out the area. Keep an open mind and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Some locals would love to brag about their neighborhood and recommend some good finds. Read: Check out your local newspaper and see what’s happening in your city/town. You will be surprised at how many organizations still use this for advertisement. Deal Sites: I know we all hate getting slammed with emails, but if you’re looking to be more adventurous, signing up on deal sites can actually be beneficial. I love sites such as: Groupon, Living Social, Thrillist, Scoutmob, AmazonLocal, SeizeTheDeal, etc. They offer discounts on local events, travel, various classes, goods and so much more. They’ve been extremely helpful to me. ***Disclaimer*** Events/classes option may not be offered depending on your location…. now do you see why I’m willing to drive. ;-) Social Media: There are tons of groups out there that share the latest happenings in the area. Just type in your city in the search field and follow. I hope these few tips and resources are helpful to you. Have fun exploring! If you have any tips of your own, please share. Stay tuned for more… xoxo Melanie
