How did you come up with the name ExploRebel? It’s a perfect name to describe me. I’m not afraid to experience new things and I’ve been told that I’m kind of a Rebel. I like to do things and go places that others around me wouldn’t even consider. I realized that there is much more out there than what was offered to me growing up and I want to learn and see it all. I also, got some help from my creative Sista Shanita…Hey Boo! What inspired you to start ExploRebel?
After posting a few pictures on social media from my recent vacations and my local skydiving adventures, I would get questions and concerns from family and friends. That motivated me to create a platform to share my journey with others who are hesitant to experience something new. I want to encourage them to take risks and show them that there is life outside of their bubble. I also want to connect with other exploREBELs like myself. What or who motivated you to be more ExploRebel? I was researching some things online and came across this large community of travelers. There were people from all different cultures and backgrounds sharing their stories and I became an instant groupie. Reading and watching their experiences, motivated me to step outside the box and see what the world had to offer. Since then, I’ve gained a few passport stamps and I’m eager for more. Did you travel when you were younger? Growing up my vacations consisted of driving “down south” (Alabama, Mississippi & Georgia) to visit relatives. There was a Disney World trip in there as well, but it was too hot to remember. Unfortunately, there were no study abroad programs offered where I’m from. I noticed in your previous post, you mentioned something about work and vacation days. What do you do when those days run out? I utilize my weekends for quick getaways. I love a road trip or a quick turn around flight. I also explore things locally. You will be amazed at what you can discover in your own backyard. What would you tell the person reading this who’s looking to be more ExploRebel? Take the Limits off! Go, learn and be adventurous. If it seems a bit overwhelming, take baby steps by checking out your local area first. Once you step outside that box, you’ll never be the same. Don’t worry – We can get lost together! Do you have any concerns with this new journey you’re taking? Absolutely!! My main concern and fear is writing – I SUCK AT IT! I also think about the already established network that’s much younger than I am and wonder how can I stand out or am I too old for this. In reality my circle is so small, and now I’m opening myself up to the world. Then I pray and think about why I started ExploRebel in the first place and that motivation outweighs my concerns. Hello new friends! Thank you for joining me on this journey. I look forward to connecting with all of you. Stay tuned for more. xoxo Melanie
